About the Food Bank
The UBC/AMS Student Food Bank (SFB) at the University of British Columbia (UBC) provides emergency food relief to current UBC students. The initial set-up of the food bank was funded by the Alma Mater Society (AMS), the student society of UBC, through the Innovative Projects Fund. With their support, and that of the AMS Executive Coordinator of Student Services, UBC Ismaili Student's Association, and UBC Red Cross Club, the SFB was launched February of 2005.

 Mandate:

  • To provide a seven-day supply of emergency food relief for current UBC students.
  • To provide nutritionally-sound hampers in accordance with the Canada Food Guide.
  • To educate clients regarding resources available to them on and off campus.
  • To provide the most beneficial experience to volunteers.
  • To advocate about student hunger and poverty issues.
Using the Food Bank

All UBC students are welcome to use the Food Bank by showing a valid student ID card. The Food Bank offers dry goods and non-perishable groceries. We often have hygenic supplies as well.

The UBC/AMS Foodbank is meant as an emergency only service. It is meant to help students during a time of crisis. To make sure food is available for everyone who needs it, we ask that users limit themselves to one bag of groceries for individuals. There is a limit of 4 visits per family per semester. Staff will provide referrals to other Lower Mainland foodbanks and sources of financial assistance if these limits are not meeting your needs. We will not turn anyone away and we want to help.

Donate to the Food Bank

Donations of non-perishable goods will also be accepted during operating hours. Please give generously.
